I'm a Maverick Renegade

I actually would never have thought this until I started writing this blog... but I am a renegade when it comes to recipes.

If you had asked me a few weeks ago, I would have said I always followed recipes carefully and to the letter... but I realise now that I don't. I substitute this and leave out that and don't check the time and bake things too long or goodness knows what else.

What a naughty, self-opinionated cook I am. Luckily what I make usually turns out ok and I don't have too many disasters... What kind of cook are you?

  1. As much as I'd love to be an artistic cook like you, adding this and that and not needing to measure for it to turn out completely perfect, I'm sad to say I cook with recipes and am very specific to what the recipe says. I love it when recipes leave a "variation," because then I feel like I'm artistic. I can pretend, right?

  2. Oh Samantha, I think that 'artistic' is too kind a term... 'slapdash', 'impatient' and 'inattentive' might be more appropriate...!

I think you said somewhere that you are relatively new to cooking... I think you will find that the confidence to experiment will come with time and more experience. There's lots of things I avoid cooking because I'm not confident enough... Anyting involving making my ken pastry, for example... And I didn't know how to knead bread properly until I looked up a video on YouTube!

  3. Aw, thank you so much for using my burglar illustration to illustrate your 'renegade cook' post! :)

Your blog is awesome and I LOVE the background.
